We made it to Portugal via Damas Bus lines and were here by 1030 local time.  We have gained an hour!!  The town seems friendlier and there is a bit more English than in Spain (so far).  Mind you, Portuguese is a totally different language!! Boy oh boy – are we in trouble!!  It is raining today – photos to follow!  First full day here was museum and art gallery as the weather was off.

Day two we have travelled over to Isla Deserta which was great.  Weather has improved and we got our share of sunshine!  It was a tour that went through a natural park (reserve) with many birds (mostly migratory – 95%) from as far away as Russia, Canada, Norway etc – enroute to Africa for the winter.  It was quite interesting.

We are enjoying Portugal so far, the people are very friendly.

We had trouble getting accommodation in Cadiz so we ended up in El Puerto de la Santa Maria which is just a 25 min ferry ride into Cadiz or a 45 minute train ride. Santa Maria was very disappointing as it is the dirtiest city we have come across in Spain, we think maybe there is a garbage handlers strike. It looks like its been this way for some time.

Anyway we managed a train trip into Cadiz but caught the wrong one and ended up in Jerez so the train attendant revalidated our ticket and set us straight. He was a nice individual and we had a couple of laughs. Cadiz was a great little side trip.  Deb called it the ‘express’ version as we walked the whole sea wall in less than 2 hours.  We would have liked to stay longer.  We are off to Huelva next which is our last Spain night.  The weather has changed, some mornings it can be rainy but it always clears up and seems to turn warm and sunny later.  The sunrise is now much later (0845 today!)
